Happy Easter

Last week Ben's cousins, Jenn and Matt, came up to visit us on their spring break from school. Ben had a BLAST! He loved playing chase with Matt and had the best time getting sugar highs from all the sneaky snacks Jenn slipped him under the table. We went on our first camping trip of the year with them. We had last minute change of plans seeing how the original destination was flooded the night before we left - but we ended up 30 minutes from the house at Wilson Island in Iowa. They had some really great trails we hiked and enjoyed DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge right down the road. We went to the SAC Museum and Jenn and Matt had the best time on the flight simulator. Saturday we spent most of the day at Mahoney State Park and the "hamster tunnels". It was the best.. we played tag and had 4 or 5 kids wanting to join in the fun. The ice skating rink was still open - probably one of the last weekends - and we enjoyed that as well. Ben was a little torqued off b/c we didn't let him on the ice - and he let us know about it.. he was NOT happy! Today we did the Easter thing and took the cousins to the airport so they could fly home. I think we all started to cry when Ben didn't want them to leave and stated to tear up.
We miss them already - but it is SO much quieter at my house.
I learned one thing from their visit - you can be on a phone conversation and text at the same time...

More pictures from the visit, Easter at the Papillion park, and the eggs we "tie dyed" the Martha Stewart way can be seen here...

A-B-C-D's

Running around town today - Ben read the letters: S-T-o-P..... B-E-D..... All the signs he saw he pointed out at least one letter.. I was very impressed.
But awed when we got home and the sign I received as a gift - leaning against the wall - he says "F-A-M-I-L-Y - is for Ben" it was too cute.

Wint-pring

It's one of those days - not quite winter - not quite spring.... but one heck of a day. It started out a bit cold and ended fantastic (for a wint-pring day).

Since the dinosaurs haven't gotten us yet, we decided....

To go outside and enjoy the nice temps. I put this together while ben....

decided to play in the mud... and then fussed that his shoes were dirty..

He played on his bike some too.

and if you can figure out what these strange markings are in my garage you are doing pretty good..

(They are Ben's wet feet prints as he is walking/riding his bike to its final resting grounds)

Since it was such a nice day - and it's been FOREVER since we've been able to play outside .. we took a 2 mile walk down the path.. and Ben walked most of it pulling his wagon.. (the rest of the time he rode in the wagon). I do have to make a quick mention of the sweet memories I had as I rode down the hill in the wagon with Ben. Childhood is great fun!

We hope everyone else had a great Tuesday.

Car shoes

Pete purchased Ben a new pair of shoes the other day. Ever since Ben started walking, Pete has been itching to buy a pair of the corny blinky light shoes. I just hate them, but I gave in and let Pete go for it. This will hopefully be the last time I give in to his crazy ideas. We finally found how to make Ben act like the 2 yr old he is..... how? Take these blinky shoes off. Oh lord! He cries, and screams, and just wants his "car shoes" back on (they actually have a Hot Wheel on the side). This afternoon I wanted to take a few pictures and the only way he would allow me was if I took pictures of his car shoes first. He's always been a huge fan of shoes, he is very decisive about which ones he should wear. And I have a feeling he will be wearing these until I'm able to sneak them away.

Pickle Puke

It was a lovely day today. Temperature in the 60s and lots of sunshine. We took a bike ride around Chacco Hills to enjoy the day. We did lots of running around and playing so it surprised us when out of nowhere Ben tells me he had an ouchy in his tummy, then hollared in pain. Last time this happened he puked.. So I quickly took him upstairs and he got sick... and when he was done... he looked up and said "All done".
We hadn't eaten supper yet so we limited his meal to bread and crackers.. and later we pulled out the celery, olives and pickle tray... I think Ben snuck a few pickles.. and when i picked him up to take him to bed.. I found out for sure.. yes indeed he ate a few pickles.. I had proof all over my shirt. He was sick a few times.. and then felt better. Brushed his teeth and went to bad like a champ.
He's a great sick kid... I know i've said it before.. but he warns us a good 30 sec. b/f hand.. Except with pickle puke.

On a funny note... Recently when Ben gets hurt.. I tell him he's ok b/c his guts aren't falling out... Yesterday morning he walks in our room.. and says "mom - my guts are falling out I need a sticker..(band aid)
